The Threat of ISIS

The Threat of ISIS

By James Knopp, Staff Writer

“If you threaten America, there will be no safe haven”

ISIS is a world terror. The radical groups commits countless acts of terrorism and threatens our very own safety. It has been a struggle to find a good solution to stop ISIS, but as of last Wednesday we are one step closer. President Obama announced that the U.S. will expand their air campaign against ISIS. For the first time, direct airstrikes against Syria have been issued. Obama did not put a timetable on the American action against ISIS, saying “it will take time to eradicate a cancer like ISIS,” and senior Administration officials would not define what victory against the group would look like during a press briefing before the speech.  Obama once again ruled out American troops fighting on the ground directly against ISIS, saying the U.S. is strengthening its military and support for the Iraqi government, Kurdish fighters and the moderate Syrian opposition. A senior administration official said the government of Saudi Arabia agreed last week to become a “full partner” in efforts to equip Syrian fighters, including hosting effort to train the forces fighting ISIS. The American president has fully analyzed the risks of the planned attacks, but as he stated, “This is a core principle of my presidency: If you threaten America, you will have no safe haven”.

These intense actions have brought many paranoid thoughts of another war. However, many peoples opinions have swayed after the viral beheadings of two British journalists. According to TIME Magazine, “Most Americans are now in favor of violent action against ISIS”.  With ISIS’ intense hatred for America it is only a matter of time before they attempt an attack on us. It would make most sense to launch a devastating attack against them before they take any more American lives.
