Senior Spotlight: Jake (The Snake) Watson-True Hilltopper

For the past four years Jake (The Snake) Watson has been one of the most passionate, hard-working and energetic athletes at Chardon High. His work ethic has been an inspiration to many Chardon athletes and students alike.  Jake (The Snake) got his famous nickname back in sixth grade because according to him, “People said I sounded like a rattlesnake.”  The nickname stuck and has followed him to the high school, where Jake has played football for the past four years, earning his varsity letter this year. He has also sung in choir.

This year Jake has helped out the Varsity baseball squad, and Chardon baseball coach, Brian Long, tweeted that he “has more heart, hustle, effort (and) intensity than anyone I know.”  This was just after Jake earned the game MVP award not for his play on the field, but rather for his dedication and effort when he is with the baseball team.   When he is not at an official high school game Jake enjoys playing football, baseball, and basketball pick up games in his free time. On the rare occasion Jake is not on a playing field, he is most likely playing video games with his friends-another one of his favorite activities.

Jake has always been one of the most excitable Hilltoppers, especially when it has come to athletics and football in particular.  He was especially sentimental about how the 2012-13 football team was one of the most memorable in Chardon history.  “My favorite time in high school was when Chardon made it into the final eight in the state (football tournament).” he fondly recalls.  However, the best part of high school for Jake has not been just the memories he has made playing sports or singing in the choir, but rather what Chardon High has given to him, and what he has given to it. “My favorite thing about high school is being able to be around people who care about me, and helping out people who need it,” he says. After high school, Jake says he wants to live an enjoyable and productive life-“I want to get a good paying job and all around just be successful in life.”

Jake (The Snake) Watson has become one of the most passionate and kind Hilltoppers of today, and his work ethic and optimism are examples to everyone of what being a true CHS Hilltopper means.
