Heart to Heart

Heart to Heart

This February, the TLC (Teen Leadership Corps.) class is throwing a dance for the senior citizens of the Chardon community. On Valentines Day these student are going to be putting together a party for the seniors at the Chardon Methodist Church. Their planned activities for this dance are: the senior females getting their hair and nails done and gift baskets being given away that contain items donated by many shops and businesses in Chardon. Some items that have been donated are things like a shirt from KT’s Custom Logos, a $25 gift certificate from the restaurant, Cleats, and there are so many more! The TLC group is going throughout Chardon to see how many people and businesses will sponsor them and give more donations to the cause so that the seniors of Chardon can have an amazing Valentine’s Day dance.

Sara Jurgens, a senior at Chardon, said, “I think that it is a really great idea because I don’t think that the seniors should have to be bored all day, and that it would be really fun to have a dance for them!”

Holly Golden, another senior at Chardon was asked what she thinks about having a dance for the seniors of Chardon. She replied, “That is a sweet idea, it would be great for the students here to dance with the seniors and to help them have some fun.”

As the teacher for the TLC class, Mr. Mizen gave his opinion on what he thinks of the idea that his students came up with. He states, “I am so proud of this idea. I know that my students are going to put their best effort into putting this dance together and I know that it is going to be great!” The kids are planning to make this the best dance ever and they have so many ideas. They are planning on getting a live band because a DJ at a dance for seniors seems a bit overdramatic. People who want to help just need to talk to Mr. Mizen for the information about the dance. Other clubs such as NHS and Interact club are also planning on volunteering to help out with the dance.

After being asked how she thinks the dance is going to go, Angela Minichello says,

I think that the dance is going to be amazing. I trust that everyone in our class is putting the thoughts of what the seniors would want first rather than just thinking about what they personally would find cool to have at the dance. I am just so excited to see how this goes!”
