Moving far away

Moving far away

It is about that time when seniors start getting ready to head off to college. Almost all seniors know the college they will be attending fall of 2013. The norm for Chardon students is to go to school in a comfortable surrounding in Ohio, somewhat close to home. But for a couple of adventure seekers, college could be the time in their lives to get away. It is their chance to go far away for the next four years and see what it feels like to be on their own.

College will be a scary time for most, but it could also a very fun time. Being so far away from home that it has to be a plane ride away is a scary though. Senior Donna Grau said, “I knew I wanted to go away at the beginning of this year. When I found out that I got into Colorado at Boulder, I was so happy. I could not even control myself.” Some people just know that going away will suit them. If it does not work out, you can always come back home and transfer to another school. Graduate from Chardon High, Evan Erasmus said, “I started at ClevelandState and hated it, so I transferred to Lakeland. But next year I’m making the long trip to UtahStateUniversity. After all, you only have one worry free chance to move away and test out the waters.”

But going to college far away is not for everyone. Some people have that home body that needs to know their family is close, but others know their family is only a phone call away and that is okay for them. The out-of-staters want to live on their own and make their own decisions. . They want the feeling of being independent and having their life decisions up to them.

“Ever since I was a senior, I knew I wanted to go to college someplace warm and sunny. The Ohio weather is not for me. I wanted to get away and see what it is truly like to be on my own. I applied to CoastalCarolinaUniversity, got accepted and have been happy ever since,” said Chardon grad Shane Swick.
