There are great expectations for the Chardon Varsity Baseball Team. This year there are seven seniors, five of them that started on last year’s team. All returning seniors are great leaders and look to lead the team deep in the tournament this year. This team has so much potential and all the players expect to go far in the tournament.

There was a coaching change in the off-season, making Ed Mugridge the varsity head coach. The team has to adjust to the changes, but it looks as if they have adjusted just fine. “We have a strong core of pitching from our seniors with a strong back up of underclassmen pitchers,” said Coach Mugridge.

The fans are ready for the season to begin. “I am looking forward going down to the baseball games,” said sophomore Lisa Poyar. “I am really looking forward to watching and cheering on the team,” agreed sophomore Katie Moore. There is always a big crowd at the games cheering on the toppers.

“Some players put in a lot of work in the off-season and it really surprised me in the first four scrimmages and in tryouts,” commented senior Jeff Seufer. Chardon has had four scrimmages so far, going 3-1 by beatingCleveland Heights, Perry, andGarfield Heights. The team looked great in those three wins and looks to take their talents deep in the tournament.

Chardon has had one official game so far where they played Trinity atTrinityHigh School. Chardon did not come out too strong. They started to pick up their play as the game progressed and the final score was 7-2, Chardon coming out on top.

The seniors are doing a great job handling all the changes from last year. The toppers look to get off to a good start this season and focus through the changes of having a new coaching staff and a different style of play.

“For all of the fans that have never seen a Chardon baseball game you need to get down to the field and see them play.” said senior Leah Simkoff. “It’s a great time to hangout with friends and enjoy a quality baseball game.” Each game the team displays a lot of energy and plays with a ton of heart. This season will be a blast to watch as the senior led team is looking to make this the best season they have ever played.
