Fellowship of Christian Athletes: What It’s All About

Fellowship+of+Christian+Athletes%3A+What+It%E2%80%99s+All+About

The Fellowship of Christian athletes meets every Thursday morning before school from 7:00-7:15. This is a very beneficial program in the atmosphere of our school. The name references, “Athletes”, but it is open to anyone, seeing as the things talked about do not only apply to athletes, but everyone. If you are wondering what it’s all about and how you can get involved, you came to the right place.

The mission of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is relatively simple. Here it is, from their website, “The FCA Mission is to present coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and fellowship…” The FCA, in short, wants to help prepare and encourage people to make a positive impact in their world.

I attended the meeting that was being held Thursday morning, in Mr. Ricci’s classroom, room 303. Mr. Ricci was talking about pressure and how we all deal with it. During his discussion he referred to several ways that we can overcome pressure and adversity in our daily lives. He also made reference to several Bible verses that supported all that he said, specifically Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” The meeting was brought to a close with a prayer, and everyone had time to head to their lockers or the cafeteria.

While Mr. Ricci was the one talking that Thursday, there are several other Teachers involved. Mrs. Ricci, Mr. Brown, Mr. Hewitt, and Mrs. Newman are some teachers that are also involved. Some of them worked together to give me a reason as to why they find this program important in our school. Their statement is as follows:

“This program is important because it allows students to bring up more comfortably the big issues that they face in their everyday life. The program allows us to use the word of God and their faith base to discuss ways to work through the issues. The program gives the student time to enter into prayer with each other in the public school setting.”

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a good program for our school, and a great opportunity for students who are looking to improve their view on life and improving their relationship with God. Feel free to attend one day, and make sure to bring a friend, you will not regret it.
